The
exhibition, Strands of Identity,
considers
the
identification associated with an individual’s
hair.
Through video and photography, Katelynn
Burg
discusses how hair is used as a tool to
classify
individuals through their nationality or
personality,
as well as acknowledge hairstyle
stereotypes.
She was inspired to do this exhibition
after
noticing how impactful hair is to society.
Between
March 19th and March 23rd, Katelynn
will
be exhibiting her senior capstone in the
Student
Gallery next to the Northcutt Steele
Gallery,
located on Montana State University
Billing’s
campus. Katelynn is a junior inquiring
A
BFA degree with a concentration in New Media
and
graduates in May of 2018.
This is an interesting concept, Katelynn. I realize you may not have the work completed, but I encourage you to describe what this will look like? Are you following any institutionalized format of identitification. Is this a photographic series, series of videos following documentary formats, etc. And can you flesh our for your reader a bit more about what you mean by "impactful"? Does this relate to social class, categories of belonging, etc. etc.?
ReplyDeleteCapstone exhibitions run for at least 2 weeks, just so you know. And I believe you mean you will be acquiring a BFA degree?
